What we collect
- Query text: When you use the explanation tool, we process your query to generate an explanation. For short, generic topic queries (like "what is inflation"), we may cache the result so future visitors with similar questions don't need a new AI generation. We do not permanently store long pasted text that may contain private information.
- Account information: If you create an account, we store your email address and any explanations you save to your history.
- Usage data: We log search queries (without sensitive content) to improve our content, identify topics people want explained, and monitor for abuse.
How we use your data
- To generate and deliver explanations you request.
- To create and maintain your explanation history (if you have an account).
- To identify popular topics and content gaps for our editorial team.
- To prevent abuse and enforce reasonable generation limits.
Public vs. private content
Your private AI-generated explanations are never automatically published or made indexable by search engines. Only admin-reviewed and published explanations appear in our public library. You can share a link to a private explanation, but sharing does not make it a public, indexed page.
Your rights
If you have an account, you can view, search, and delete your explanation history at any time. You can also request account deletion by contacting us.
AI processing
Explanation generation is powered by AI language models. Your query text is sent to our AI provider for processing. We treat any instructions contained in pasted text as content to explain, not as commands to execute.
Uploaded Documents
- Documents are submitted for the purpose of processing your request to simplify, summarize, or explain the content.
- Document contents are not intentionally published as public explainer pages or added to public SEO content.
- Document contents are not intentionally added to public QueryLog content or used as public content opportunities.
- Simple Explainer does not intentionally persist extracted document text in its normal application database unless required by a user-requested saved feature.
- Files may be processed or temporarily handled by underlying hosting and AI service providers.
- Users should not upload information they are not comfortable transmitting through an online service.
